Is an occasion for global observance on a meaningful issue of the international maritime community. As one of the most important events in the area of maritime affairs at international scale, this day is a reminder of the relevance of the vibrant blue economy and the unique contribution of the maritime activities to the world’s growth. This high level event is specially dedicated to the unique performance of women in the maritime sector all over the world, as a goal of sustainable development in which the maritime industry has a very relevant role.
These themes frame the role of the strong commitment of the International Maritime Organization to helping achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and to support the participation of women in the maritime industry. As part of the international maritime community is our responsibility to work towards the empowerment of women to fuel thriving economies across the globe, to encourage growth and development and to improve the work of the world’s maritime community, striving safe, secure, clean and sustainable shipping.

EMPOWERING WOMEN IN THE MARITIME COMMUNITY

has been selected as the World Maritime Day theme for 2019. This will provide an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to highlight the important contribution of women all over the world to the maritime sector.
